About Claire Hall

Claire's passion for glass began during her years travelling across the United States when she met a small community of glass artists in the mountains of West Virginia and started to learn the basics of glass fusing and torch work.

Originally trained as a sculptor (BA Hons Fine Art) at Bristol Polytechnic working in wood and steel, the material of hot glass easily translated into her work. It was at this time Claire also started designing and creating glass jewellery, making glass beads over a hot torch and fused glass jewellery in a kiln.

She moved back to the UK in 1999 and now works from her studio in Brockley, near Bristol in the South West of England. She has won several awards for her glass jewellery and exhibits her glass sculptures and installations across the UK and internationally. Selected three consecutive times for the prestigious British glass Biennale, her work has been purchased by the Imagine Museum in Florida for their permanent collection. Last year her installation 'The Quiet Place' was selected by the Glass Art Society, US for their annual members exhibition in Detroit.
.
She was commissioned to create a large wall of glass postcards for a window front on Weston-super-Mare High Street, part of the Weston Super Windows Project to regenerate the High St, which was gifted to and now permanently resides at the Hospice in Weston.
Her work is exhibited throughout the UK, most recently at the Atkinson Gallery - The Sustainable Open in Street, Somerset and the CGS Exhibition at Black Swan Arts Gallery in Frome, Somerset.

Claire was selected for the prestigious British Glass Biennale in August 2024 in Stourbridge and exhibited 2 pieces of work. A wall installation 'Sirius V 'and a large glass paper vessel 'And As The Ice Keeps Melting'. Her glass postcard was also on show at the CGS exhibition 'Thanks for the Memories' and won The Peoples Choice Award.

Inspiration

Claire's work is often inspired by the colours, textures and patterns found within the natural landscape. On an another level it explores the themes and concepts which question the human response to our environment and how we live within our world.
She continues to explore mental health issues, mindfulness and meditation recording personal journeys and memories through the medium of glass.
